What makes Help Me!! special?
Thanks for asking! Technology has changed over the years and so have we. When we started in 1991, it was all about the operating system and expensive hardware that was – well a no brainer to fix. People needed help to understand the rapidly growing technology world that they were becoming more dependent on. We were born to help residential and small business users and quickly gained a niche in San Antonio. As technology evolved, so did we and our client base grew more and more diverse. Today, Help Me!! Tech Team is an evolution of our parent company HELP ME!! Computers, LLC. The new name came about to better reflect who we are as a company today. The “Help Me!!” - acknowledges the roots that we are proud of, “Tech” – because we specialize in all technology, and “Team” because we are a family team of Owners, team members with our staff, and most importantly we are on your team. We don’t just concern ourselves with your individual PC but your entire technology network as systems integrators that specialize in making everything work seamlessly together. We have a business clientele that ranges from micro-businesses to larger ones with multi-locations and continue serving our City with integrity, quality of workmanship and dedication without forgetting about how we started. So we continue our dedication to residential and small business while rapidly growing larger commercial & medical clientele. This truly makes us unique. Why does this matter? Because you benefit from our vast and diverse experience and outstanding long term team…that keep serving you as the focus. Technology follows YOU everywhere. You need it to work at home, at the office, on your phone. Yet so many technology companies only service business OR the residential user – not both and in the rare case they do…NOT to our ability nor with our offerings level. We aren’t a big box chain that keeps staff busy by working on “PC’s” or running out on service calls. We aren’t “parts pushers” that have commissions on our mind. We aren’t “geeks” that are difficult to talk to. We are a team of talented, dedicated professionals that just want to make your technology life easier and we are honored to still be serving San Antonio twenty years later. |
Why are diagnostics so important? If I think that I am infected with a virus…can’t you just fix it?
While we value your opinion and agree that your idea of what has gone wrong is an important part of determining what the problem is, things are not always that simple. We have been doing this a long time. With twenty years and thousands San Antonian’s served…we have seen it all. We know that taking the time to do complete diagnostics is the right way to do things and it saves you money in the long run.
Bottom line, you don’t want to waste money on repairs that you don’t need. Computer systems are complex, not every issue is attributable to a virus, as common as they are. By performing our thorough diagnostics we will be better able to pinpoint what the exact problem is and thereby do a better job of making your repair successful…the first time. Plus we often catch other unforeseen issues before they become a problem. |
What is cloud computing?
The first thing to know is that the cloud isn’t really all that new. For example, if you go to Facebook, bank on-line, or use Google or Yahoo for your email, then you are already on “the cloud.” Simply said, the data in the cloud isn’t stored on your computer, it is stored on the Facebook, Google, Yahoo and your banking institutions server. You do not have control of this data…they do.
We have addressed this topic in our Techspert Blog . Please read it for an easy to understand explanation about cloud computing and the things that you need to consider before jumping on the cloud yourself. |
What are managed/subscription services and why do I need them?
We know that technology is an ever changing thing and something we can’t live without. We also know that consumers have changed throughout the years along with the evolution of technology. Given these facts, technology service providers, such as ourselves, have had to bend and flex along with both the consumer and technology to change our business models. Basically it means going from a reactionary mode – where we keep highly educated and experienced tech’s on staff waiting for you to call, to a proactive or preventative model in which we keep things running smoothly by monitoring your network 24/7/365 for you and doing fixes automatically and when things do go wrong, gives you priority treatment. It’s better for your budget, your schedule and your sanity while allowing service providers to remain open and ready to serve.
Recently I read an article from a non-biased source on the topic and frankly…couldn’t explain it better myself. Click here to read. |
Can I just ignore a virus and save some money?
Continuing to operate a system that you know full well is infected is tempting. Many people do just that and continue to limp along until the system comes to a grinding halt or they get the blue screen of death. Why is this a problem? Well because viruses will destroy your data. If caught early, you can largely avoid these problems and spend far less to repair it. If you are thinking…so what, I can just buy another system. Are you going to buy one every time you get infected? How cost effective is that solution? The better solution is to go ahead and get it taken care of properly (by a real professional) as soon as you suspect an infection. Then, purchase and properly configure top quality anti-virus for your system to help cut down on infections.

Why should I pay for anti-virus software when I can download it for free?
Want to know how you can save money from infections? Spend some on good quality anti-virus software. Then pay a professional (not your teenager) to properly install it and configure it (or it’s all for naught). Anti-virus software is never a 100% guarantee that you won’t get infected but in our opinion, it is 100% better than anything free. Top companies pay their people good money to keep up with the latest threats out there and their fixes. Obviously they have to charge for that service. If it’s free…how good could it possibly be? Not to mention, while downloading that free anti-virus software you could in fact be downloading a virus/malware or spyware. Now what kind of deal was it?
Businesses take note: you also have your reputation on the line. What message does sending out an email that reads “Scanned by free AVG for infections” at the bottom send to your clients? Will the recipient be impressed or left wondering if you really care whether or not they get infected by your email? |
Why shouldn’t I just dump Microsoft and buy a Mac to avoid infections?
As one of my esteemed technicians likes to say…”don’t drink the Koolaid” until you know all of the facts. I wrote a Techspert Blog that has some thoughts for you on this topic. Mac’s can be great for certain specific users. But if you are buying one solely because you think they won’t get infected…think again. All systems are subject to infections so why pay so much more for the hardware on the front end?

What do I do when I see a pop-up that tells me that I am infected?
We wrote an easy to understand Techspert Blog on this very topic. Please read it for step-by-step instruction on what to do and when.

What about those “fix-my-PC” ads on television?
Don’t get me started. I have a four letter word that describes what I know about this…S-C-A-M.
Understand that by agreeing to this service you are allowing total strangers full access to your system remotely and there could be consequences. See our Techspert Blog on this topic. |
What is wrong with someone giving me free software or an operating system?
This is a very common problem that we see daily. No, we aren’t the illegal software police so don’t worry BUT we would be very remiss if we didn’t try to educate you on the seriousness of allowing “someone” to load things onto your system that you didn’t legally purchase. If you don’t have a license sticker adhered to your system or the disk in your hand…it’s not legal. This is all fine and good until someone gets caught. Then you won’t be a happy camper. Additionally when your system does get infected (and it will) your system may need to be “wiped” and reloaded. Again, it’s all fine and good except we can’t reload what isn’t there. Without that license sticker or disk it can’t be reloaded. So, expect to have to pay for a legal version at that time. I have a long but easy to understand Techspert Blog written for you on this topic. Please read it and share with your family to protect them…and you!
